CAPRERA SAILING SCHOOL

Our concierge team at Von der Heyden Real Estate understands the invaluable art of learning should never stop, just like life never stops teaching. This is especially true for The Caprera Sailing Center – founded in 1967 as a non-profit association.

Founding members are the Italian Touring Club and the Milan section of the Italian Naval League that, under the High Patronage of the Italian Navy, receive in concession the land and military structures of the south-western part of the island of Caprera between Punta Coda and the wonderful gulf of Porto Palma on which some old military buildings were built.

With over 50 years of history and after having taught generations of men and women of all ages and backgrounds the art of Italian seamanship and sailing, it remains impossible to give an exhaustive answer to those who ask what the Caprera Sailing Center is. Claiming to be the first and most important reality of sailing and seafaring training in our country even if one of the leading institutions of sailing at the European level is correct but at the same time very reductive and incomplete.

The powerful engine of the association has always resided in the exceptional resource of volunteering. President and members of the Executive Committee, but above all Instructors, Boat Managers and Shift Managers as well as Land and Sailing Assistants lend their work by making available to the CVC their time and their professional skills for free. There are more than 2,000 volunteers who have contributed to make CVC not only the largest sailing training institution in our country, but a real reference model recognized internationally.

The development of the school is driven by a growing attention to issues of environmental awareness and sustainability: after having launched in 2019 Seastema, an alliance among the leading European sailing schools for the sharing of best practices in reducing environmental impact, the CVC was in 2020 partner of the EU-Life Clean Sea Life project, which finds its raison d’être in the fight against pollution by microplastics.
